Lessinia is a geographic region located in the Prealpi Venete, most of which is part of the province of Verona whereas the remaining smaller part remains under of the provinces of Vicenza and Trento.
A slice of this territory constitutes the Regional Natural Park of Lessinia – a vast plateau of forests and grazing land, where nature and traditions of ancient populations blend in together. It is a land of spectacular karst phenomena and traditional districts with stone rooftops, it is rich in fossil deposits unique in the world that serve as proof of its origins. The natural park, instituted in 1990, occupies 10’000 hectares rich in history, archaeology, unique natural and geological phenomena; as well as priceless ethnographical, architectural and linguistic aspects. Bosco Chiesanuova, with a population of 3’000 inhabitants, is one of the most important districts of Lessinia and it is located 30 km from Verona.
SÅM is a triennial project based on the visual exploration of Lessinia. SAM operates in collaboration with the Lessinia Film Festival which includes many cultural events revolving around the theme of the mountain, taking place in the rooms of the gallery Fonderia 20.9 in Verona. The artist residency is now at its second edition and also includes a workshop in Bosco Chiesanuova. SÅM is a project curated by Ana Blagojevic, Chiara Bandino and Francesco Biasi.
Photographer Rafal Milach and book-designer Ania Nalecka will be the curators of 2019 year’s artist residency. The curators, together with SÅM staff, will select three artists who will be invited to work on the Lessinia territory.A fourth artist will be chosen in collaboration with Sputnik Photos collective in order to participate in the Mentoring Programme hosted by this Polish collective.

Context is a mental mechanism that gives meaning to human experiences. Decontextualisation eliminates this mechanism by separating the subject of study from the environment that frames it. Without context we alter the order of the narrative. One might argue that decontextualisation renders a sign meaningless, but it can serve as means to develop a reflexive, artistic, innovative thought process. Five artists formulate their artistic proposals based on this common process. They apply the method of decontextualisation in varying ways to explore concerns that arise when examining the concepts of time, space, identity, memory, and the present. The exhibited projects weave an intimate narrative that generates questions about the human being and the circumstances that surround us.

Les Utopies Rouges, 2019

„Red Utopias is a collection of three books that bring together the photographs and texts of a dozen European authors and photographers around the theme of political utopias in Europe in a post post-soviet era.

In the wake of the centenary of the October revolution, we have been reminded that communism is and only has been possible through the unreality of literature and theory. Throughout history, the application of socialist theories of Marx, Lenin and Stalin proved to have a propensity for totalitarianism. Everywhere, the influence of the USSR was so strong that it remainsin memory as a kind of hope, an inaccessible dream necessary to maintain. As if it were a political plan still possible, it sees itself unevenly commemorated between societies.

The idea that commemoration is sometimes utopianis reflected in the historiography of the Euromaidanin 2014. The revolution that preceeded the war.The national pride of the uprising, embodied by the decommunisation, has produced disillusionment. To remedy this, inhabitants, intellectuals, writers, artists and photographers are seeking to reinvent life in society. On the other side, in the separatist zone of Donbass, the glorious moments of the USSR are celebrated, and the inhabitants, caught up in the war, try to live in this microcosm, relying on socialist hope.

Entering this year, we have seen through numerous publications and societies -Western but also
the farthest – a need to talk about dreams to escape.

It is a question of collecting the testimonies of a particular utopia. An utopia that envisages the revival of another utopia: The Communist utopia.
Is there any sense in talking about replicating this utopia? Is it not more a kind of restoration if it is
the elites who call it their wishes? Or is it not a kind of reactionary thought on the part of the popular circles that won nothing at the fall of the Berlin wall?

It would then be a curious reaction since it wouldre-establish an ideology that specifically deniesany value to the past. What is the object of the nostalgia of Communism: This is what we want
to discover, we who first grasp it as a mortifying ideology? Are we blinded by Western propaganda and by a more biased teaching than we would like to believe?

Red Utopias are collective memories, spaces and people. We interrogate architectures and places of memory through testimony and theory.

Red Utopias are an assembly of large format books that gives as much space to images as it does texts, without relegating one or the other to a secondary plan. Connected together by small notches, Red Utopias are a construction that readers can manipulate, clip, detach, reattach, assemble.

The trilogy Red Utopias brings the resultant content to life through individual launchings, a meeting and a series of lectures in the presence of photo-graphers and authors across France, the UK andmore. It gives readers the opportunity to be able to share their thoughts, to exchange, to question, the books become a meeting space.“

Urbanautica Photo Annual Awards, 2018

I’m happy and proud to be the Winner of the Urbanautica Photo Annual Awards 2018, Category Architecture, Space and Conflicts!

Winner Claire Laude

Shortlisted Arthur CrestaniAlex CurrieAndrew Waits

Special mention Marinos Tsagkarakis

“ About We are proud to announce the first ever Urbanautica Institute annual awards dedicated to the photographic project!
We are looking to reward photographers who have distinguished themselves with:

  • the high quality of their research,
  • the ability to convey meaningful messages with their work,
  • the strength to go deeper on those issues most important to society,
  • and who open the language and the narrative form to other perspectives.

We are looking for project-oriented work not, single „wow“ images.
We have chosen specific categories and topics. We are aware that there are different and alternative approaches today to the photographic medium and the production of images, and we welcome a variety of photographic modalities (linguistic, structural, formal and expressive) through which these issues are addressed. We care about the depth of intuitive thinking as much as the strength and coherence of the proposal.

Jury We are the Jury! In the past ten years, Urbanautica Institute has contributed to the medium of photography by presenting the work of international photographers and educators with great care and attention, while also raising awareness of photography’s role in the world. Our Journal archive counts several hundred interviews, scores of reviews, and almost uncountable photographs and projects. Our credibility is based on research and studies that require years of effort, professionalism, competence, patience,  and passion, and is proven through our collaborations with galleries and museums worldwide in the resulting exhibitions and catalogues.
We feel that now is the time to give life to a serious international photographic competition that will not only reward authors, but will help continue to fulfill our mission, stimulating a critical reading of images, and fostering a better knowledge of the world and of photographic grammar.“

Verzasca Foto Festival, 2018

Verzasca Foto Festival 2018

Verzasca

28/07/2018 – 28/10/2018

The Inner Forest

The Inner Forest is the theme of the 5th Verzasca Foto Festival. The projects showcased in the outdoor exhibitions are in dialogue with the surrounding territory and reflect one of the festival’s core visions: nature perceived as a source of creative stimulus. Walking and roaming through the forest, immersed in a primordial and free universe, we can draw inspiration along the way.

The forest explorers are twenty local and international artists. Through a variety of sensitivities and expressions, they provide a cross section of contemporary photographic research, ranging from new documentarism to lyrical, ironical, or conceptual narrative. Their works represent both images of the exterior and the interior nature, crystallizations of different awarenesses grown in diverse contexts, that convey a cosmopolitan breath.

The authors of the works selected for the outdoor shows conceive the forest—in its multiple dimensions: physical, metaphysical, and experiential—as a territory to explore. Objective and subjective dimensions speak about what surrounds us, but also about what we feel, opening the way to introspection and artistic reflection.

Activities like nocturnal projections in thegrottos and piazzas of the Verzasca Valley, workshops, round tables, concerts, walks, and exhibition openings in the woods round up the program, offering informal networking opporturnities with the local population and artists from all over the globe.

The Verzasca Foto Festival is set in a genuinely natural environment, a place of peace in the mountains that stimulates the interaction between people who are curious to move, seek, discover.

Noorderlicht International Photofestival 2018

Museum Belvedere

23 /06/2018 – 23/09/2018

IN VIVO | the Nature of nature

IN VIVO, the 25th Noorderlicht International Photofestival, is about our ambiguous relationship with nature. Museum Bélvédère in Heerenveen becomes the setting for photographic art possessing a confrontational beauty, images inspired by our rich tradition of experiencing nature. IN VIVO will be a modern, threedimensional nature scrapbook with a twist, about how our loving way of experiencing nature is directed by hidden social and cultural constructions.

Noorderlichts aims to raise awareness in its audience about the fact that our natural environment, from intimate back gardens to remote regions, is radically affected, or even created from scratch, by ourselves. IN VIVO challenges and enables the viewer to look in another, probing manner at the living eperiment we call nature.

The Noorderlicht International Photofestival 2018 takes place from 23 June to 23 September. Collaborating with partner organisations, an encompassing multidisciplinary project containing photography, other visual arts, and music is created.

Following an invitation from FOTOHAUS | PARISBERLIN to organize an exhibition on the theme Rausch / Ivresse, Claire Laude and Michel Le Belhomme have invited fifteen international positions of artists around the concept and title „Errance Blanche“.
„Errance blanche“ means the condition when one changes from a feeling of comfort to a confused consciousness and then experiences a feeling of euphoria. „Im Rausch sein“ / „être en ivresse“ (French) / “to be in a state of euphoria” can also mean the feeling of invincible power and force which rises regardless of the substances one takes.

This euphoria can be compared with a creative force and its emotions. „Errance“ refers to this moment of disorder when the body falls and moves back and forth into a different state when the euphoria and its abnormalities begin.

White refers to the substances, e.g. the color of alcohol or drugs. Metaphorically it can also stand for the white blank page of the artist.

D

Ausstellung : 05/03/2017 – 01/05/2017

Mit : Caroline Bayer, Gert Bendel, Ewa Berg, Günter Blendinger, Jan Decker, Matthias Dettmann, Udo Dettmann, Elli Graetz, Cornelia Groß, Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir, Klaus Hack, Eberhard Hartwig, Olli Heikkonen, TO Helbig, Heike Jeschonnek, Thomas Judisch, Peter Kaiser, Claudia Kapellusch, Jeanett Kipka, Thomas Kleinschmidt, Hagen Klennert, Gitte Klisa, Synke Köhler, Stephanie Krumbholz, Claire Laude, Julia Leschik, Dörte Meyer, Claudius Nießen, Frauke Otto, Justine Otto, Maria Raeuber, Fabian Reimann, Clara S. Rueprich, Christiane Gerda Schmidt, Andy Scholz, Bernhard Schrock, Uta Siebert, Petra Steeger, Christiane Stegat, Anne Steinhagen, Armin Strohmeyr, Neil Taylor, Saskia Wenzel

BLOW #14 Self- Portrait, 2016

„from the editor / issue fourteen / deals with self portrait, and we confess this issue is opinionated. we were drawn to the type of self portrait that is closer to fiction than autobiography. fellini would contradict “all art is autobiographical. the pearl is the oyster’s autobiography.“

most of our artists are engaged in some kind of masquerading, performance or covering up. a few admirable ones are absent from their own self portraits including kelli connell who uses a model to play herself, as well as anna fawcus who’s self portraits are in fact a montage of her parents.

this category of artist we conclude are grasping at something deeper, to the point where their own image is demoted. works of self portrait like these say everything about the depths we can see easily within ourselves, but can only catch glimpses of in others ‐ elusivity, complexity, derangement and brilliance.“

GUP Magazine, Portfolios Online, 2016

„In this series, architect and photographer Claire Laude (1975, Orleans) combines isolated aspects of landscapes with people into installations of decaying spaces. Through these constructed images, she creates an awkwardly artificial environment in which traces of life feel lonely and lost. Laude explains that she seeks to question the relationship between things which last, and those which are eventually lost.

The name of the series originates from a poem by Raymond Carver, ‘Where water comes together with other water’, though the artist has deliberately altered the first word to ‘when’ in order to accentuate the concept of time and timelessness. The feeling of vulnerability in the series is strengthened by its softened colour palette and Laude’s minimalistic compositions, in which body and nature come together. Laude says that she sees photography as “a possible threshold between various realities, the existence, the dream and poetry.“

Exposition Mouvements de Terrain

28/01/2017 – 26/03/2016

Lebensraum I,II,III – Teil I / HABITAT

Ausstellung : 05/02/2016 – 07/02/ 2016
